Accessibility
Yigo should work for everyone, however you use the web: with a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control, a switch, zoom or high contrast. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AAA, the highest level, wherever it applies.
In short
- All text has a contrast of at least 7 to 1 against its background, in both the light and the dark theme.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, and whatever has focus always shows a thick, clear outline.
- Every button and link you tap is at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Pages have clear headings, labelled regions and labelled controls, and screen readers hear about new results, errors and copied links as they happen.
- Nothing flashes, nothing moves on its own for long, and animations stop if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Yigo has no time limits, and pages never reload by themselves. The one thing that can appear on its own is a notice if Yigo goes down for maintenance while you have it open; it tells you when Yigo is back, and you choose when to carry on.
- You can zoom up to 400% without scrolling sideways, and the page follows your device’s light, dark and high-contrast settings.
- Links that open a new tab say so, and short forms such as API are spelled out.
Using Yigo with a keyboard
- Tab moves to the next link or button, and Shift + Tab to the one before.
- In the search box, suggestions appear as you type. Down and Up move through them, Enter searches, and Escape closes the list.
- On a result, Enter opens the model on its own site in a new tab. The Preview button next to it opens a larger view, and Escape closes it again.
- / jumps to the search box from anywhere on the page. You can turn this off below.
- In the Feed, which shows one model per screen, Down and Up (or Page Down and Page Up) move one model at a time. Tab reaches each model’s Favorite and Open buttons. Nothing moves or plays by itself.
- Every Favorite button (the star) says whether the model is saved, and screen readers hear “Saved to your favorites” or “Removed” when you press it.
- On the Convert page, every choice is a standard control, and the 3D preview takes focus: the arrow keys move it. The model’s name and size are also given in words, and each step says what happened (“Saved robot.stl”).
Settings
Turn this off if you use voice control or a switch, and a / you speak or press by accident jumps to the search box.
This setting and your theme (the sun and moon button at the top of the page) are saved in this browser only.
The Favorites page has one more setting, Personalize my feed and results: whether Yigo picks your feed and “For you” from what you do. It’s a standard checkbox, and it says in words what Yigo has learned so far.
Known limitations
- Now and then, if a connection looks like an attack, Cloudflare (which protects Yigo) may ask you to confirm you’re a person (a “Verify you are human” page). That page is Cloudflare’s, not Yigo’s. Cloudflare says the technology behind it meets the WCAG 2.2 AA standard, one level below the AAA that Yigo’s own pages aim for. If it stops you, please email us (below). If it happens while you have Yigo open, Yigo tells you, and its Reload button brings you back to the same search.
- Model titles, tags and pictures come from the sites that publish the models. Those sites don’t describe their pictures in words, so Yigo treats each picture as decoration and uses the model’s title to describe it.
- Some titles are in languages other than English, and Yigo can’t always tell which language.
- The feed counts a longer look at a model as interest in it. If you move through the feed slowly, for example with a screen reader or a switch, it may think you like everything about equally. The feed still works; your searches, opens and favorites count for much more, and you can turn personalization off on the Favorites page.
- Results open on other sites, such as Thingiverse, Cults3D and Creality Cloud. How accessible those pages are is up to each site.
How we check
Every change to Yigo is checked by automated tests in a real browser, in both themes and at phone and desktop sizes: text contrast, the size of every button and link, and using search, suggestions and the preview with a keyboard.
